Before beginning training, the dog’s aptitude for moving livestock is assessed. The trainer guides the dog in an arena with a small flock of sheep in order to gauge the dog’s level of willingness to work, and help bring out their herding instinct.
Once a dog “turns on” and begins herding the trainer will asses the dog’s individual herding style and determine the proper custom training program for each dog. The owner will receive a complete written report and explanation of the instinct test.
The herding instinct evaluation is educational, and both mentally and physically a stimulating experience for the dog and owner team.
